Preventing "Kingdom Building," "Power Grabs," Ego Inflation and More

ARES D1’s organizational structure does not lend itself to “kingdom building,” or the puffing up of anyone’s ego. The structure is designed to get people trained, exercised, ready and able to provide services successfully, efficiently, and effectively to the public via governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations.

“Power grabs” are prevented because there are no elected leaders. Leaders are recommended and appointed with the knowledge and/or approval of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and ARES leaders at the Local, District, State and National levels, following the guidelines of the ARRL ARES rules.

Just as leaders can be appointed, so too can they be removed for any serious impropriety, wrongdoing of abuse of their position.

Additionally, ARES D1 leadership positions include the Emergency Coordinator (EC), the District Emergency Coordinator (DEC), and the Assistant Emergency Coordinators. These positions are “Coordinators,” not “Managers,” “President,” “Vice President,” “Board of Director member,” etc.

These Coordinators do a lot of work, not politics or acting like a boss.

If a Coordinator or an Assistant Coordinator is not actively doing their volunteer role as a Coordinator, they are removed. Because they are not helping the organization, its personnel or helping to meet the ARES D1 Mission and Vision.

ARES D1 does not exist for anyone in a leadership position who only wants a “title.”
